Bird of Paradise

Beautifully constructed and framed, “Bird of Paradise” is a collage piece by Hills artist Kaye Devlin.

Janet (Jan) Cross

Jan grew up in the United Kingdom before falling in love with an Australian lad and living in the Kimberley town of Kununurra for twenty-five years, raising four daughters along the way.

She and her husband have retired to York, where she is establishing her pottery line named “Gone Potty”.

Jan’s pottery is beautiful, practical and saleable, with colours to suit every home decor.

Pieta and Brett Taylor

Brett worked in the timber industry most of his life as a faller. He then built a spot mill which we both operated until the government closed down the timber industry.

Brett has always been interested in working with timber and enjoys a challenge.

Since retiring he has been able to indulge that interest.

After we left the timber industry Pieta became interested in mosaics and a bit of woodwork.

Brett has a long history of dabbling with wood artistically from earlier in his life as he often assisted his father, acclaimed Australian artist and sculptor Howard Taylor.

Pia Remund

Pia lives in Perth and is an occupational therapist. In her spare time, she makes art and music.

She loves experimenting with mixed media, recycled objects and natural objects such as gum nuts and timber from the bush.

She really enjoys the meditative quality of painting buildings and streetscapes.

Pia followed her good friend Kaitlyn as our most recent Artist-in-Residence here at Station Arts in Beverley.

Kaitlyn Elsegood

Kaitlyn is self-taught and has spent the past year exploring different artistic mediums. Her current focus is on drawing and ceramics. Kaitlyn completed a Masters in Arts Management at RMIT in Melbourne in 2018 and has worked for various arts organisations in both Perth and Melbourne.

Kaitlyn has just completed an arts residency at Beverley Station Arts Gallery where she held her first solo exhibition FACES & PLACES: A Documentation which also includes a selection of her ceramic works for sale.

Previous to this Kaitlyn was included in the group exhibition ‘The Vulva Project’ in 2018, where she submitted both hand-stitched and sculptured works in Perth.

As Beverley Artist-in-Residence during January 2020, Kaitlyn was delighted to discover that that none of us resembled characters from “Wolf Creek” or “Wake in Fright”.

Jo Nelson

My practice started from an earlier life as a quilt maker and having bags of leftover scrap fabric. Board with making quilts, and not liking to waste anything, I started making fabric wrapped rope bowls, textile wall hangings etc.

I’ve discovered that for me it’s all about the colour.  I have been inspired to try crochet after seeing some beautiful bright modern creations on Pinterest and have recently diversified into acrylic painting and linocut printing.  So much quicker than having to crochet or sew all the little pieces of colour together.

The creative bug has taken hold and I just want to spend every day making beautiful things.  Unfortunately, I still have to spend some time earning a living but retirement to Beverley is certainly looking very enticing.
